How to Update Galaxy TAB 8.9 with AOSP based Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware

Never late than earlier as in the due course of this article we will be checking out on how you can easily port the latest version of Jellybean 4.1 Alpha 2 release in your Samsung Galaxy TAB 8.9. All thanks to the AOSP team who has made it possible. Since this is an alpha release, more than half of the functionalities are still under development, so the things which work and doesn’t work are summed below. Please be informed that this is not an official firmware version released by Samsung Electronics and is a firmware built by the third party developers.
We will be very soon be coming up with the other custom ROM firmwares which will truly redefine your tablet experience. Also, very soon the official Jellybean 4.1 update will come to select Galaxy tab variant. As of now we are not having any exact dates. For your convenience, we have also shown the screen captures on how this firmware will look like in your device.

Things which are working:
- Extended Power Menu (More options in Power Menu)
- super fast reboot’s!
- super fast start up’s
- G apps Pre-Installed
- Fully Working Samsung Keyboard Dock!
- Wifi
- Bluetooth
- Hardware acceleration (You tube Etc…)

Things which are not working:
- Camera
- Google Now doesn’t work!
- Google Search

In the process of the Jellybean installation, all the data in your device will get lost, so back up the same with the help of below steps. Don’t back up the data with the help of PC Suite as it doesn’t support the beta firmwares.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
Minimum battery left in your tab should be 60% so as to make sure that the tab doesn’t get turned off in the middle of firmware update. Disable all the security suites installed in your computer and in device if any as these tools may interrupt the process of firmware update. Enable USB Debugging in your device from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”.
